A few days ago, the Supreme People's Court and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development jointly issued a typical case of installing elevators in existing residential buildings in old residential areas. It was mentioned that as of the end of October 2023, nearly 100000 elevators had been installed in existing residential buildings across the country, of which the number of elevators installed in 2022 and 2023 was around 30000. In recent years, the installation of elevators in existing residential buildings in old residential areas has been rapidly promoted in various places, effectively solving the problem of "the last kilometer" of residents' travel, and improving residents' sense of happiness and achievement. The small elevator is not only a vivid portrayal of "the people's city is built by the people, and the people's city is for the people", but also bears the responsibility of local governments to care for the people, serve the people, and be brave in innovation.

People's livelihood is no small matter. Small elevators solve the big problem of people's travel. In recent years, cities in various places have developed rapidly, with tall buildings rising from the ground and wide roads shuttling through the center of the city. When fast and convenient become the city's business card, some old houses in the city are not equipped with elevators due to the early construction age, and residents, especially the elderly, are facing difficulties in traveling. "People's City for the People", in order to make the dividends of urban development truly benefit the people, in recent years, local governments have vigorously promoted the installation of elevators in existing residential buildings in old communities in response to this problem. Nowadays, the old community equipped with elevators is full of new vitality, making it more convenient for the elderly to go out, and the square of the community has more laughter.
Elevator installation tests the determination of local governments to take on the role. In reality, the elevator installation may not be able to get the support of all residents. "High-level residents are enthusiastic, middle-level residents are watching, and residents on the first and second floors are opposed" is the current situation of many ladder work. The transformation process involves issues such as the use of property rights, so it is necessary to find a legal basis and innovate and explore in the implementation; if there are restrictions on the fire passage of the residential area, the planning of the residential area shall be revised and adjusted; if the surrounding environment of the installed building is special, the design scheme shall be formulated according to different situations; in view of the contradictions between high and low-rise residents, we should first understand the interests and doubts of different residents, and reach a consensus through consultation and adjustment. Only by continuous exploration, innovation and breakthrough can grass-roots organizations and cadres continue to promote the installation work. Only by coordinating the multi-party relationship can the elevator installation work stand the test and win the satisfaction of residents.
Although the elevator is small, it is convenient for residents to travel. It is not easy to install, involving laws and regulations and the interests of all parties. However, as long as we are in line with the original intention of serving the people, have the courage to take responsibility and actively explore, we will certainly be able to promote the work of people's livelihood in an orderly manner.
