At about 9:00 p.m. on December 11, a netizen posted the evacuation process on social media, saying that "I live on the 18th floor, the 17th floor is on fire, and 11 fire engines are coming, which is terrible". The video shows that when the fire broke out, some residents warned loudly in the corridor. When evacuating, the elevator was crowded with residents, some raised their mobile phones to shoot, and some held babies in their arms.
Once the video was released, it sparked concern and discussion among many netizens, with some expressing fear and incomprehension, and one commenting, "Where are you guys going in an electric oven?" On December 13, the video photographer told the poster news reporter that he was now aware of the dangers of taking the elevator, but didn't think so much at the time. He said that the property also issued a follow-up safety reminder, the elevator was then shut down.
When the fire broke out, it was not a case of emergency to take the elevator to escape. In September 2022, a fire broke out in the south entrance hall of a commercial office complex building in quanshan district, Xuzhou, Jiangsu province. According to China Fire and Rescue, seven people escaped by elevator at that time, killing six people and causing serious burns to one person. Investigations revealed that the cause of death was inhalation of toxic gases.
