On January 6, a video of "a man taking an escalator and turning around the glass burst" attracted public attention. The video shows that when a man was taking an escalator down to the bottom in a supermarket and was turning around, his body touched the handrail of the escalator. Accompanied by the violent shaking of the handrail, the glass under the handrail immediately cracked in a large area. After the incident, the Zhengzhou Huiwanjia Supermarket party believed that the glass burst was man-made damage and demanded compensation from the man to 8300 yuan. The man involved said that he "gently rubbed" the elevator handrail and cracked, because there was a problem with the quality of the elevator itself and he should not compensate. On the 7th, the relevant staff of the Zhengdong New District Market Supervision and Administration Bureau of Zhengzhou City responded to the New Yellow River reporter that if there are potential safety hazards in the supermarket elevators involved, the bureau will check and deal with them ex officio.
According to local media reports in Henan Province, Mr. Zhang, the man involved, said that he came down from the escalator of the shopping mall normally. "He didn't play with his mobile phone and didn't do anything, so he rubbed the elevator handrail. The glass of the handrail (place) turned into an ice crack. I couldn't do it. I just rubbed it gently. How could it burst? It was too delicate and fragile". In media reports, Mr. Zhang said that the person in charge of the supermarket involved asked him to compensate 8300 yuan, while Mr. Zhang believed that the elevator itself was in disrepair.
In media reports, the head of Zhengzhou Huiwanjia Supermarket (Nonferrous Home Store), the supermarket involved, said that after checking the video of the incident, he believed that the glass burst was caused by the man-made damage caused by Mr. Zhang's collision. "No one touched it in normal use, and the elevator will not break down," adding that the elevator has been in operation for 6 years, "no broken in 6 years" and showed the annual inspection certificate of the elevator. At the same time, the person in charge of the above-mentioned supermarket told Mr. Zhang that if Mr. Zhang believes that the elevator has safety problems, he can find a qualified unit for elevator inspection.
On January 7, the reporter of New Yellow River called several contact numbers of Huiwanjia Supermarket many times, but no response was received as of the time of publication. On the same day, the relevant staff of the Zhengdong New District Market Supervision and Administration Bureau of Zhengzhou City responded that Huiwanjia Supermarket (Nonferrous Home Store) is under the jurisdiction of the bureau, and that if there are potential safety hazards in the supermarket elevators involved, the bureau will check and deal with them ex officio. Soon afterwards, the above-mentioned staff said that they had transferred the matter to the Yuxing Road Market Supervision Office of the Bureau for intervention.
